"Look into My Soul" ist ein einsätziges “Minikonzert” für Mandoline und Zupforchester.
Es handelt sich um eine Melange aus verschiedenen Einflüssen wie z.B. der minimalistischen Kompositionstechnik, osteuropäischer Folklore und Popmusik. Bei Studierzeichen C verwende ich ein Motiv aus meinen gemeinsamen Zeiten mit der Hardcore-Punkband Born Blind – mit ein Grund für den Titel dieses Werks. Das Motiv entstammt einem Song, den ich für Born Blind komponierte und „Look into the Soul” hieß. Der andere Grund ist meinem musikalischen Background verantwortet, der aus vielen verschiedenen Stilen besteht wie z.B. Bluegrass, Celtic, Klassik, Rockabilly und auch Hardcore Punk.
Look into My Soul enthält Elemente aus Fiddle Tunes mit schnellen Passagen und Off-Beat-Rhythmen. Abschnitte aus minimalistischen Pattern bilden den geschmeidigen Klangteppich, über dem das Motiv dahintreibt. Zu guter Letzt wird der aggressive Hardcore-Punk-Groove jedem Orchester einen großen und kraftvollen Klang verleihen.
"Look into My Soul" entstand 2015 für ein Konzert in Seattle, USA. Die Uraufführung fand am 15. Juni 2015 mit dem "Seattle Mandolin Orchestra" unter der Leitung von Joseph White und mit mir als Solisten statt.

"Look into My Soul" is a one movement "mini concerto" for solo mandolin and zupforchester.
It is a mixture of influences such as minimalist compositional techniques, Eastern European folk music and popular music. The motif at rehearsal mark C is from my days performing with hardcore punk band, Born Blind. This is also one of the reasons that this piece is titled Look into My Soul. That motif comes from a song I wrote for Born Blind called "Look into the Soul". The other reason is that my personal music background is filled with many different styles, e.g. bluegrass, celtic, classical, rockabilly and hardcore punk.
Look into My Soul has elements of fiddle tunes, with fast passages and off beat rhythms. Minimalist phase patterns create a smooth soundscape for the motif to float above. Finally, the aggressive hardcore punk groove will give any orchestra a large and powerful sound.
"Look into My Soul" was composed in 2015 for a concert in Seattle, USA. The premier of Look into My Soul was on Saturday, June 15, 2015 with the "Seattle Mandolin Orchestra", conducted by Joseph White and myself as the soloist.
